1. What are the basic filter types?

Sand Separators both used to remove particles such as sand or small gravels; not effective in removing silt, clay or algae. Secondary screen or mesh filters are used after media filters to collect any particles of sand washed from them.
Mesh and Screen
Multi Media/Sand filters consist of layers of coarse to fine material such as gravel and sand, or crushed granite, silica or sand. They are used to trap finer material in suspension, like silt and clay.

3. What filter size do I require?

It is commonly accepted that the ratio of emitter size to filter opening size should be about 5:1 or 7:1 for effective filtration.

Common filter size applications are:

bullet On Line Drippers - around 105 - 120 micron
bullet Drip Tubes/Tapes - around 80 - 120 micron
bullet Micro sprays or micro/mini sprinklers - between 125 - 180 micron
bullet Agricultural sprinklers - 420 - 800 micron
