Tape/Drip - Maintenance

Reliable performance for many years depends on consistent and proper maintenance of the SDI system. Routine and preventive maintenance is critical.

Operating pressure: keep the right pressure in the system, according to design. Stop irrigation if pressure in the water supply system drops below the required minimum.

Clean the filters when pressure difference between inlet and outlet of the filter is above 5 m. Inspect carefully the filter element at least once a month.

Laterals flushing: flushing frequency based on the water quality;  once a month (clear water), once every two weeks (dirty water),  every irrigation (very dirty water). The flushing must be in high pressure therefore, the collectors should be flushed one after another. Flush during the irrigation without fertilizers.

Flow rates inspection: if the flow rate is higher than the primary value, search for bursts in the system and/or blocked emitters. If the flow rate is lower than the primary value, check pressure in the system and/or search for blocked emitters.

Air & Vacuum valves: check valves at the start of every season and at least once during the season.

Non-return valves: inspect non-return property of the valve before every chemical/fertilizer injection.

Root intrusion prevention: maintain an irrigation regime that minimises moisture stress. Inject Treflan time to time.

Acidification and chlorination: water source quality and contaminants will dictate treatment and frequency. In reasonably clean water three treatments per season are recommended.
